The Forgotten Treasure

Deep down there is a dark cave that holds a forgotten treasure. The journey is long and tedious but you insist on taking on the risk. You march though the mouth of the cave with fierce confidence. But the deeper you go down into the onyx hole you begin to wonder if there is ever an end. The dripping sounds of condensation echo through the chasm making every hair on the back of your neck stand erect. The darkness engulfs you with every shuffled step making you more and more paranoid. Your brow begins to sweat as you frantically search for an exit but you have gone far too deep into the winding darkness to even catch a glimmer of hope for an escape.  Dropping to your hands and knees you blindly feel your way around while praying to the universe to show you mercy. Soon the pleads turn into curses. You scream out every obscenity you can think of  just to have it echoed right back to you in a hauntingly distorted voice. You clench your teeth and your body starts quake. The reality of it all sinks into you like a rock. What do I do? What do I do?!  You are unable to hold back the tears any longer. They pour down your cheeks uncontrollably like waterfalls. You are alone. Truly alone. Soon you begin to blend in with the cave. You are covered in the filth of the cave from head to foot. You even have created dripping sounds of your own as you let your mind slip into a void. Hours  pass. Days pass. Days become months. Months turn into years. Time doesn't even exist and neither do you. You have forgotten who you are and will not acknowledge that you are alive anymore. All is lost. The earth has swallowed you whole and you are buried in a sarcophagus of sorrow. The ages pass and the alignment of the universe begin to shift causing dramatic changes to the atmosphere. Unbeknownst to the earths changes you are slowly brought back up to the surface. Your cocoon is exposed to the harsh elements raging on above ground. Black clouds blanket the sky and lighting and thunder crash and boom throughout the heavens. Nestled deep in your prison you begin to recognize the sounds booming outside. I know that sound. Was the first thought that came into your mind. The first thought you've had in a very long time. Your brain starts to spark new activity and you think of all sorts of things. You remember how you got to where you are. Your discouraged again. You curl up in your little world wishing you never had thoughts to remind you of everything that had happened to you. Just when you began to focus on the void again a huge bolt of lightning crashed straight from the heavens in a tremendous burst of light on the cocoon cracking it open like an egg. Bewildered and afraid you leap to your wonderously strong legs. Breathing heavily you catch the pleasing smell of the petrichor emanating from the dirt. With wide eyes you take in the view.  The dark clouds dissolve leaving a crystal clear royal sky. The sun shines a bright beam of light down on you and to your amazement bright colors illuminated from you. You realize that somehow you have become a living prism full of light and color. Dazzled by the beautiful form you have become you look up at the sky with tears of shimmering clarity streaming down your face. I know now what this means. The search was finally over. I spent far too much time searching for the forgotten treasure that I missed the most important detail of all. Closing your eyes and tilting your head toward the euphoric warmth of the sun you beam a smile. It was inside of me all along. I AM the treasure.

Meet The Author

Hey there, My name is Rachel and I am not 100% sure why i'm making a blog. Maybe i just need a way to express myself that feels gratifying. Kind of like an open confession booth or an outlet in which i can pour my inner self out to anyone who finds me. If anyone finds me. I don't expect anyone to find me which is (at least to me) the beauty of it. If i am heard.. i am heard. If not.. so be it.
